Teaching Artists
Becoming a Teaching Artist or Guest Teacher
Teaching Artists are at the heart of our educational philosophy at A3. Not only do these working professionals share their expertise with students, but Teaching Artists are expected to create multi-week even year-long curriculums that integrate with academics at A3. We generally hire Teaching Artists for minimum 6 week contracts.
We pay a minimum hourly wage for Teaching Artists. However, such positions are not full time and are not paid from the SPS general fund. Rather, they are supported through donations of time or money, grants, or through fund raising done through student productions.
Teaching Artists/Guest Teachers, as per Oregon State law, may not independently run a class and must always by supervised a licensed teacher. Generally, teaching artists will be used in extension of A3’s curriculum. A3 Teaching Artists/teachers must meet the following criteria:
- Have professional or extensive background in an art form that is connected to the mission of A3.
- Be able to pass a standard background check as well as a drug screening and finger-print background check through Springfield Public Schools.
- Be able to work flexibly within the A3 schedule.
