Arts Core
The ARTS CORE is a well-scaffolded series of arts courses serving two needs:
- developing basic arts skills in visual, media, and performing arts, building towards upper-level arts study & experiences
- teaching the “tools” students will use to express their mastery of academics. The “pencil & paper” of academic expression.
The ARTS CORE is broken up into six, five to seven week sessions through out the school year. ARTS CORE classes may be 45 mins long, 90 mins. long or even 180 mins., depending on the content. Regardless of the course, students are involved in ARTS CORE the full 180 mins., with time for breaks. Class sizes depend on the content (for example, a dance class would be larger than a tech media class).
Students will rotate through the core, with one required arts core class, MVP, and then whatever electives they choose. As the school grows, so will the choices of Arts Core classes. The goal is to offer classes that specifically are geared to build upon the student’s developing skills and interests. All the courses develop skills that the students will put to use in not only other ARTS CORE classes, but also in Humanities & Math/Science.
