Humanities I

Check out the HUMANITIES WEB SITE

Humanities is a combination of Language Arts, History, Social Studies, Philosophy and Art History. It is diverse, evolutionary and interdisciplinary; it encourages creative and critical thinking skills as well as encouraging an in depth approach to learning including student mastery and ownership. These courses will focus on visual content to introduce and drive our units as well as student interest to delve into specific issues within the larger framework of learning.

Humanities I: Our first year is devoted to student voice. Students will be defining their own creative voices in the theatrical, media or visual form of their choice.

This concept of voice will also guide our studies in Humanities. Students will explore the concept of voice, and identity, through creative writing, self-exploration, examining character and writer’s voice, as well as deciphering complex historical events from multiple perspectives. Just a couple of examples that students will explore include autobiographies, multiple perspectives of historical events, and character development. We will explore issues that include contemporary world and local events and trace the historical antecedents and/or parallels. Student evaluations will be predominately project based imbedding more traditional modes of assessment within these arts based projects.

Humanities I, second year will continue to explore issues of voice, but focus on individuals and their societies as we move into students taking their voice and using it to communicate with their community.
